Shalom Friends, I am going to keep this one short. Living in NYC my attention has been consumed by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Still there is a connection to be made to this week's Torah portion.
We find in the parsha that Abraham is eager to welcome guests and show them hospitality. The midrash teaches us that Abraham and Sarah's tent was open in all directions so that they could always be on the lookout for strangers to welcome. What a beautiful lesson for us this week. Here in NY, in NJ and in surrounding areas, there are many strangers in need of welcome. I hope we can all learn from the model of Abraham and Sarah and find ways to open our hearts and homes to those in need. Then we have a chance of having a Shabbat Shalom.
